Tiny Wings is a simple, but challenging game. The main skill in Tiny Wings is determining when to tell your bird to fall and trying to get as many points as possible.
Watch Where You’re Going, Not Where You Are
One of the most important tips to getting better at Tiny Wings is to watch the bottom right of the screen instead of the bird. This lets you be more aware of what’s coming up next and gives you more time to gauge when to touch the screen to get a perfect slide. Keep the bird in your peripheral vision to make sure you don’t lose track of him, but don’t focus on him.
Learn to Double Tap
Learning to double tap is a handy-skill in Tiny Wings and lets you have better control when you need to collect or, more importantly, avoid certain power-ups. If you start getting a number of perfect slides in a row, you’ll start to fly higher, but you’ll have a tougher time gauging when to touch the screen and you’ll feel like you have less control on which hill you are going to slide down.
How to Double Tap
1) Touch the screen to slide down a hill.
2) Stop touching the screen to soar into the air like you normally would.
3) Tap the screen to gently lessen the height of your jump.
4) You’re doing it right if the bird seems to level out and his body is parallel to the ground.
You’ll still move quickly but you’ll be closer to the ground, giving you an easier time picking which hill to slide down next. This technique is super helpful on objectives like “Get 10 Perfect Slides on the 1st Island” where you need to not be catching a lot of air.
Focus on Small Victories
Often times, what happens in Tiny Birds is you’ve got a great fever streak going and you’ve nailed 5 or more perfect slides in a row and then you mistime a slide and lose all of your momentum. Night starts coming quickly and you’re running out of time. You keep trying to slide down hill after hill to gain momentum, but the hills are steep and you’re quickly losing time.
The best thing to do in a situation like this is to not panic, pick a hill and slide down it, no matter how slow you’re going and just try to get some air. Don’t try to slide down each hill, one after another. What you’re going for is that one perfect slide that will start increasing your momentum.
Also, if you’re in a situation where you’ve got a ton of perfect slides in a row and you can’t determine if you’ll land the next slide perfectly, just try to bounce off the top of the hill gently. This way, you’ll lose your fever streak, but it’s okay because you sill have your momentum and can start getting more perfect slides again soon.
Try Again Tomorrow
If you can’t get far, try again tomorrow! All of the islands reset their colors and the coins reset, so if you’re struggling to get that certain objective or can’t beat your friend’s high score, the daily reset could help you get further next time.
